Be a Leader

There are many ways to be a leader with CCTM. Here are just a few of the ways you can lead:

Present at Conferences and Workshops

Dozens of Colorado educators present annually at the CCTM Annual Conference. Whether they are sharing a practice from their classroom, the results of a teaching experiment, or motivating and inspiring others, CCTM presenters are leaders.

Write, Share, and Connect

Do you have an issue relevant to math education on your mind? Don't just think about it -- write about it! CCTM's CMT Journal is an excellent place to write about your great lesson, tips for working with students, or new technologies. In addition to the CMT, blogs and social networks are a great way to share and connect with other math teachers.

Volunteer and Serve

CCTM has a large Board of Directors and we believe in the power of using our organization to grow new leaders from around the state. We encourage you to run for an office and take part. Even if you're not on the Board, you can volunteer to serve on a CCTM committee, help out at the annual conference, or help your district stay in touch with your CCTM region representative.

Call for Candidate Nominations - 2020 CCTM Board of Directors

Nominations are now open for 7 positions with the Colorado Council of Teachers of Mathematics. This is your opportunity to nominate someone who is willing to work for our professional organization and give something back to the Colorado mathematics community. Or you can nominate yourself! This is a great chance to be involved and influence the future path of CCTM. Elections will be held in the spring with all terms of office beginning June 1, 2020.

The offices of president-elect, vice-president, and secretary are up for elections in Spring 2020.

The position of president-elect involves a four-year commitment. One year will be spent as president-elect, learning about the position of president and assisting the president as needed. Then this person will become president of the Council for two years, serving as executive officer and using his/her leadership skills to provide the continuation, furtherance, and implementation of the purposes of CCTM. A final year will be spent as past president. President-Elect must be someone that has served or is currently serving on the CCTM Board.

The vice-president is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the CCTM Constitution and by-laws, providing facilities and sustenance for regular Board meetings, and is the CCTM Board liaison to the Awards Committee. In addition, this person will perform other duties as assigned by the CCTM President and Board. The term of this position is two years.

The position of secretary is also for a term of two years. The secretary is responsible for all the general records of CCTM, including the recording and reporting of the minutes of meetings, and is the custodian of all corporate records. In addition, s/he will provide communications and reports as required and requested.

Three regions have openings for representatives. Representatives serve for a three-year term and will represent their region at all Board meetings, promote membership in the Council, and encourage the support of Council activities. Region Representatives must live or teach in the region they represent.

The first region in need of representation is Region 1, which encompasses schools in Denver, Littleton, Sheridan, Englewood, and Mapleton school districts.

The second region is Region 4. Region 4 includes St. Vrain Valley and Brighton 27J school districts, as well as schools in northeast Colorado, including those in Larimer, Weld, Morgan, Logan, Sedgwick, Phillips, Yuma, and Washington counties.

The third region in need of representation is Region 7. This region covers the Pikes Peak area, including school districts in Douglas, El Paso, Elbert, and Teller counties.
